Established in 1999 by a group of business and professional women, Phambili Refuge provides a place of safety for women and their children who find themselves caught in a cycle of domestic violence and abuse. It currently operates under the management of a Board of Trustees. The organization is supported by the Department of Social Development. The shelter provides a place of safety for up to 25 women and children at any given time, aiming to empower the women and their children and to reintegrate them into society. They offer guidance, counselling and life skills training to help the women regain confidence and a healthy self-esteem.
They operate on a 24-hour basis and assist survivors in obtaining medical treatment (if required) and the obtaining of protection orders from the court.
Amiici Care supports Phambili’s efforts through work sessions offering motivational and practical life lessons, aimed at encouraging the Women to effect positive change in their lives. Refreshments are served and the Women have the opportunity to ‘shop’ for themselves and their children at our FREE Pop-Up Care Store.
